Kensington Arts is proud to present Into the Woods JR., a fast-paced and heartfelt production featuring a brilliant young cast aged 8–17. This bold retelling of the classic musical will run for three performances only on Friday 25th and Saturday 26th July at Kensington Arts in Douglas. Tickets are priced between £5–£10 and are available now HERE or in person at the Villa Marina Box Office.

With a book by James Lapine and music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, Into the Woods JR. is based on the Tony Award-winning Broadway show that captivated audiences with its sharp wit, rich music, and surprisingly poignant take on “happily ever after.” The musical follows a Baker and his Wife who learn they’ve been cursed with childlessness by the Witch next door. Their quest to break the spell leads them deep into the woods, where they cross paths, and make questionable deals, with Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel, Jack (of giant beanstalk fame), and more. But in true Sondheim style, the story doesn’t stop when the wish comes true. Each character must face the consequences of their choices in a world that isn’t quite the fairy tale they hoped for.

Ben Gale, Director for the production said: “Our young cast have taken on this new venture with great enthusiasm and professionalism. Into the Woods JR. offers so much more than fairy tales, it’s about choices, consequences, and growing up. It’s the perfect show for young people to connect with. I’m incredibly proud of what’s being created, and can’t wait for audiences to experience this magical, meaningful show.”

Emma Goodson, Creative Development Co-ordinator at Kensington Arts, added: “At Kensington Arts, we’re passionate about giving young people the chance to shine. Into the Woods JR.is the perfect blend of challenge and creativity, it’s clever, funny, and emotional in all the right places. It’s wonderful to watch these young performers grow in confidence and skill, and I think the audience will be captivated by this show.”
