A space for young people to learn all about what happens behind the scenes, in Technical Theatre Production.
Ever wondered what happens behind the scenes at a theatre show? Tech Crew is where you find out. It’s a space for young people to get hands-on with technical theatre production, working across Sound, Lighting, and Stage Management.
You could find yourself designing and programming lighting for a play or musical, mixing sound for a live band or performance, or providing technical support at gigs — like when SoundCheck takes on Dark Horse Festival.
Tech Crew members often play a key role in Kensington Arts’ NT Connections productions. Every year, Connections commissions brand-new plays written specifically for young people to perform, bringing together some of the UK’s most exciting writers with the theatre-makers of tomorrow.
Former Connections participant and current Tech Crew member Sid said:
“My personal highlights include operating lights for Connections in Blackpool [Blackpool Grand Theatre] and designing and operating lights for local shows at Kensington Arts. It helped me gain experience of the industry and the skills needed to work as a lighting technician, as well as furthering my understanding of why certain things are applied to a show from a director’s perspective.”
